Charity ladies day Lingfield: an evening of glamour for local children
On a warm evening in May, The Greenaway Foundation held its first ever annual charity ladies day Lingfield event at the picturesque Lingfield Park Racecourse. On Tuesday 26th May 2026, from 5pm until 8.30pm, guests enjoyed an evening of racing, good food and great company, all in aid of local children.
The evening took place in a private, air conditioned room with its own balcony overlooking the track. Guests were welcomed with a glass of champagne before sitting down to a two course meal, with a race card, car parking and a private bar all included in the ticket price.
The evening was a chance to bring our supporters together, thank them for everything they do, and share the work The Greenaway Foundation does for children across much of Surrey, Sussex and Kent.
A night of racing and revelry
With the sun setting over the racecourse, guests headed out onto the balcony for each race, cheering on their picks as the horses came down the home straight. There is something special about watching racing at Lingfield Park on a summer evening, and the atmosphere in the room built with every race.
One of the highlights of the night was The Greenaway Foundation sponsoring a race. As sponsors, we were invited into the winners’ enclosure after the race to join the winning connections, a real treat for everyone involved and a lovely way to raise the profile of our charity ladies day Lingfield evening.
The race card meant everyone could join in, whether they studied the form or simply picked a horse by its name or the jockey’s colours.
For anyone who had never been racing before, a charity ladies day Lingfield evening is a gentle introduction. There is no pressure to place a bet, and half the fun is simply soaking up the atmosphere as the horses thunder past the balcony.
Fundraising with a twist
Alongside the racing, there were two ways for guests to raise money on the night.
- The raffle: a selection of prizes kindly donated by local businesses, with tickets at 5 for £5 or 15 for £10.
- Collective or Go Home: each guest put £5 into a sweepstake and voted for a horse in the last race. The horse with the most votes was backed, with any winnings going towards funding school proms.
The sweepstake was never meant to be taken too seriously, but it gave the whole room one horse to cheer for in the final race, and it was a fun way to finish the evening.
Fashion, fun and friendship
True to the spirit of ladies day, guests arrived looking their best, with summer dresses, hats and smart suits adding to the glamour of the evening. The room was full of laughter and conversation as old friends caught up and new friendships were made over dinner.
A charity ladies day Lingfield evening is a chance to dress up, enjoy a night out and do some good at the same time, and that is exactly what our guests did.
What our charity ladies day at Lingfield included
We wanted the evening to feel special from start to finish, so everything was taken care of for our guests. A ticket included:
- A champagne reception on arrival
- A two course meal
- A race card for the evening’s racing
- Car parking at the racecourse
- Use of our own private bar and balcony
The dress code was smart casual, and the theme of the evening was celebrating femininity, elegance and community. Lingfield Park Racecourse, on Racecourse Road in Lingfield, Surrey, made the perfect setting, with easy parking and a beautiful view across the track.
Why we started a ladies day
Our year already includes the Charity Golf Day and Greenaway Live, and we wanted to add an event with a different feel: a relaxed summer evening where friends could get together, dress up and enjoy the racing. A charity ladies day Lingfield evening fitted perfectly, and it gave us a chance to welcome new faces who might not come along to a golf day or a music event.
Every event we run helps more people hear about the families we support, and many of our volunteers and sponsors first got involved after coming along to one of our events. We hope some of our ladies day guests will join us as elves or reindeer this Christmas.
Where the money goes
The Greenaway Foundation helps local children aged 0 to 17 from families who are struggling financially but fly under the radar of formal help. Money raised at events like this goes directly towards that work, including:
- Christmas meals and presents
- School proms
- School uniforms
- Help with school trips and residential holidays
- Transport to school
This Christmas we aim to help 1,200 families and make 4,000 children’s wishes come true. You can read more about our Christmas 2026 appeal, and see what happens behind the scenes of our charity Christmas deliveries.
Looking ahead to Ladies Day 2027
Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make our first charity ladies day Lingfield evening such a success, and to Lingfield Park for looking after us so well. A special thank you to the local businesses who donated raffle prizes.
The date for Ladies Day 2027 will be announced soon. Companies can also book a table for ten and sponsor a race; for details, email darren@greenawayfoundation.org.
If you would like to be one of the first to hear when tickets for our next charity ladies day Lingfield evening go on sale, just drop us an email and we will add you to the list. We would love to see returning guests and new faces alike, so bring your friends, your family or your colleagues and make a night of it.
