A Rainy Day of Charity: East Grinstead’s Golf Day Success

East Grinstead Business Association Raises Over £7,000

On a rather soggy day on the 27th September 2024, the East Grinstead Business Association brought together local businesses and golf enthusiasts for its second annual charity golf day, raising much-needed funds for The Greenaway Foundation, proudly sponsored by Plumb Media.

The event took place at the beautiful Chartham Park Golf & Country Club in Felcourt, East Grinstead. As players arrived, they were greeted with a hearty breakfast which was a welcome treat to counteract the dreary weather. However, the torrential rain had other ideas, delaying our tee-off by an hour. But, as any seasoned Brit knows, a little rain will not dampen our spirits! Just before lunch, the skies cleared, and the sun made a glorious appearance, allowing the fourteen teams to finally take to the course.

This year’s competition featured some delightful challenges, including the longest drive, nearest the pin, and a new addition being ‘nearest the pan,’ sponsored by our local culinary treasure, Paella Fella. It was a splendid sight to see everyone, decked out in their finest golfing gear (and perhaps a few waterproofs), enjoying the spirit of friendly competition.

After the rounds, players returned to the clubhouse for an indoor barbecue, which was also the time for them to dig deep in their pockets for the raffle and auction. With prizes like a week in a sun-soaked Spanish villa and a thrilling Porsche driving experience, it was hard to resist the temptation to contribute to such a worthy cause.

When the dust settled and all the funds were counted for entry fees, sponsorships, and the proceeds from the raffle and auction, the East Grinstead Business Association proudly announced a staggering £7,112 raised. This generous sum will go directly towards The Greenaway Foundation’s Christmas wishing appeal, aiming to grant the wishes of 4,000 children this festive season.  It’s heartwarming to know that our efforts will bring joy to so many little ones.

Looking ahead, we are already gearing up for next year’s fundraising golf day, which is set for 19  September 2025, with a ‘shotgun start’ at 10.30am.  If you are keen to join us for a day filled with golf, laughter, and philanthropy, please contact Darren at
